Investing in our people
Since our inception as a small business in 1979, Salmat has recognised the vital contribution of our staff. Accordingly, we invest in a wide range of staff training and benefit programs.
Salmat operates an ongoing program to maintain strong lines of communication with its team and promote opportunities to recognise employee performance. Frontline managers are a key factor in this program, and receive regular training and support to improve communication quality and frequency.
Training across the entire workforce has been boosted this year with the establishment of a new internal resource. ‘Salmat College’ provides training in areas including people skills, sales techniques and standard Microsoft software such as Excel and PowerPoint. Almost 800 employees each month receive training through Salmat College.
Within SalesForce, staff training is taken a step further with a government-accredited diploma program. SalesForce is the only outsourced contact centre offering this qualification opportunity to staff. More than 670 employees have completed certificate courses and 24 employees have completed diploma qualifications since 2006. A further 16 are currently completing diplomas.
Every effort is made to ensure that employees have access to benefits outside their remuneration, including a range of salary packaging options, access to discounted retail offers and an employee share scheme. Some Salmat sites have facilities including gymnasiums and subsidised cafeterias.
Salmat is committed to supporting a sustainable future for our people, our environment and our wider community.
Giving back to the community
Salmat and its employees are long-time supporters of various charity and community causes.
Within SalesForce, employees contribute to a number of projects operated by Save the Children via payroll deductions. Since 2002, this initiative has raised more than $250,000.
This year’s project saw an accommodation centre opened in the Khop district of Laos to support the children’s centre opened several years ago. The success of this centre has resulted in a second centre being built in the Xienghone district of Laos. This is expected to be completed in early 2009.
The successful payroll deduction model employed by SalesForce is set to be rolled out across the Salmat group in the coming year.
Salmat is also currently working with respected industry consultants on a long-term social responsibility strategy for the group.
